Embudo Valley Library Features Sylvia Ernestina Vergara

Sylvia Ernestina Vergara will present three new books: Bear Foot Song, Shalt and The Vote at a book signing, Sunday, August 28 at 4:00pm. The reading will take place in Dixon, at the Dixon Community Center.

Bear Foot Song, Shalt and The Vote are three diverse books completed in 2005. The Vote is a non-fiction narrative about the author's experience of being a Challenger for the Democratic Party at the Alcalde Precinct November 2, 2004. The account covers a period during the election campaign, the Election Day and time after the election. It is about the personal experience of political involvement. Her narrative is derived from a citizen’s point of view-- "What happens when a regular, over worked American Citizen decides to get involved in the political process of an election?" Like millions of Americans, Vergara has questions and seeks to reveal the laments and challenges of living in a changing world. "We must go beyond complaining," she says. In her book, The Vote, Vergara reaches into her imagination, ponders questions and offers suggestions. She feels if everyone did this, we would have billions of ideas of how to make the world better, safer, happier, more productive and beautiful.

Sylvia's second book, Shalt is narrative poetry with Spanish translation done by Carmen Julia Olguín, of Chihuahua, Mexico. Vergara's narrative poem is a celebration of "blood as life -- flowing red and vibrant in our physical beings." Shalt is a poetic paraphrase of the commandment, "Thou Shalt Not Kill."

Sylvia's third book, Bear Foot Song, is comprised of three essays -- Miracles and Perception, Leadership and Resonance. A story (Bear Foot Song) appears in between each essay and interconnects objective thought and fantasy into a concise reading experience. The reader is taken on a journey through a world of ideas and imagination. Bear Foot Song is an offering of new beginnings suggesting "bold and courageous actions of love and peace." The author believes "we can acquire through 'search' a personal initiation of life that re-ignites an inner flame of innocence that keeps the spirit alive."

Sylvia Ernestina Vergara is a self-publisher who has written numerous books of poetry, short story and drama. Her poetry is buried in a time capsule with renowned Mexican poets in the Plaza de Armas in Juárez, Mexico. She is a featured American poet at the prestigious Encuentro International de Poetas in Juárez and also has been a guest presenter at Sul Ross State University in Texas at the literary Women's International Colloquium. Currently, she is a member of SOMOS (Society of the Muse of the Southwest), a literary society in Taos, NM, and a featured guest artist in their Winter Writer’s Series 2004. Her various books have been translated into Spanish by prominent Mexican scholars and authors.
